We talked about Hoover's response and began talking about Roosevelt's response to the Great Depression. We reviewed the government's role in the economy and answered the question: "To what extent should the government be involved in the economy?"

The test grades have been posted on SIS for our Unit 1B test. Please check your grade. There will be a retake available on moodle very soon if you would like to retake the test. Today in class 2nd & 3rd hours will be in the library researching Unit 1C modern economy topics. 1st, 5th, & 6th hours will be completing two activities on the Progressive Era: Political Machines - answer 14 questions and Progressive Reforms (trusts) - answer 4 questions Due at the end of the hour!!! We will be picking topics for our Unit 1C video project!! No homework Papers submitted online will be graded this weekend and all Unit 1C packets are due today!

Beside working in collaborative groups, students will recall information from their reading and gain new perspectives on a group of early reformers, the Populists.

You will be reading 6 stories today on 19th century businessmen.  After reading their life stories you will decide if each man was: 1) a captain or a 2) robber baron

"How did the United States transform from a largely agrarian economy to a leading industrial power near the end of the 19th century?"

Virtual Time capsule & You! 9.4.12

Go to TAGXEDO to create a collage of words to describe yourself.  If there is a picture that you can upload either of yourself or a picture that would describe you best please upload the photo then add the words that describe your personality.  To add the words you will click LOAD. Use at least 15 words to describe yourself.  Keep this - you will turn this in on Wednesday.

On your index card you will find a key term that you MUST research and find out the following: WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY AND HOW.   Explain this key term in specific detail.  Write down the information on your index card and turn this in by the end of the hour.

Your group will have ONE of the following dilemmas to determine what you would do.

You must read your dilemma and decide as a group what you would do.

Fully complete page 18 by the end of the hour. 
Answer the questions in your packet and ultimately decide what you would do and explain your answer.

The First Industrial Revolution Advertisement 8.28.12

Today is a work day in class.  I suggest that you complete the following in this order:

1) Complete pages 9 - 14 in your packet.

2) See page 19 - The First Industrial Revolution Advertisement (20 pts.) - You are allowed to pick your own topic.  Using Microsoft Publisher design an advertisement touting on of the new innovations of the Industrial Revolution - the focus in from 1790s - 1850s.  You must include at least one picture, key characteristics of the innovation, how it will impact others and why it should be used.   You must be persuasive!   This is due on Friday!

For Homework - complete page 15 - Here is a helpful link to complete this. Laws of the American Revolution You are answering the question - Was the American Revolution caused by economic causes? Rate your answer on bottom of page from a 1 to a 10.  Support your answer by including 6 key terms and their definitions on the scales.  If you believe the Revolution was strongly caused by economic causes then choose 3 strong key terms for the economy and weaker ones that are not economic.  Be sure to choose and define 6 key terms.  --- this is due on Friday.
